Is the outstanding student outstanding??

I just received the Umbarger outstanding graduate student in research award from purdue biological sciences. The prize: 250 bucks. The undergrand in our lab also won an award, the prize of that: $1500. How is the contribution from a graduate student weighted so much less than an under?? priceless. Maybe because we are already paid by our PIs we don't deserve extra money anymore.
I am just wondering how the selection was processed. Either there was no one other than me applied, or they only judged on publication this year. Is the outstanding student outstanding? Well, lets see. As the playoff of NBA started this weekend, I decided to postponed my own experiments so that I could follow the games. I usually prefer walking my dogs in the park than coming into the lab. I probably get our lab members out of the lab three time a week to get a coffee or something in the afternoon and chat or relax for an hour or so. I am very happy to organize all kinds of activities for the lab or friends in the basement so we could go out and have fun and NOT staying in the lab. I could never answer if the committee ask me what i wanna do in the future or what is my career goal, except saying it's not your business. And recently I am not in the working mode and have not been able to plan my schedule well so ending up messing up experiments. Oh, bravo!!
My cells are ready for experiments now. But the suns and lakers are playing; should I put the cells in 30 C ??
